And Maoism is a specific response to the reform and opening up led by Deng Xiaoping, and it's a specific theory of revisionism, according to which China had taken the capitalist road, had become revisionist. And that's where the synthesis kind of begins. It's an attempt to basically divorce Mao Zedong, in my opinion, from the context of the CPC and create from

scratch a radically new principle of Marxism-Leninism. Now, was that in line with Mao's intentions

himself? Uh, I don't think so. I think that Mao at the end of the Cultural Revolution saw where it was going and very much participated in reining its excesses down in the way that he did.

Now, if we look at the origins of fascism, which is in the 1920s and the 30s, it is impossible to understand the context without understanding how it was a reaction against existing revolutionary communist and socialist movements. So fascists took and hijacked the aesthetics, and they tried to hijack the tone and the rhetoric,

which today, among people who see that out of context, confuse that for a revolutionary position.

But during the time in which

that existed, they were

basically

they were

like faking it. It was like

an opportunism. It was very

disingenuous to anyone who was a revolutionary

living at that time,

that the only reason these people are engaging

in that kind of rhetoric that you today

find compelling is because

they're trying to hijack an ape

the existing socialist
