And it's the story about the rise of the Qizilbash and the conversion of the Safavi Sufi order into a revolutionary militant movement, and the story of Junaid, Sheikh Junaid, and his exile.

And how he became a revolutionary leader.

And I find it to be one of the most profound and beautiful stories in world history.

And it was happening right at the center of the world, right at the end of the Silk Road.

And it is responsible for the emergence of Iran as we know it.

There is no Iran before this, before this is the true origin of Iran, okay?

And I don't I think people are very confused about why I'm obsessed with the Kizilbash and why I'm obsessed with the Anatolian highlands and why I'm obsessed with this specific region of the world at this specific time in world history.

But if you're confused about that, you just haven't been here for long enough and you haven't been paying attention enough to what this whole thing is actually about.

Because in short, the thing I find very profound about it is that you really will not find examples of it in history where

What are our motivations for being actors within history?

People are guided by self-interest, by tribal, familial obligations, by some specific particular thing that is not a universal principle in and of itself, whether it's their class or something like that, right?

And for most of world history, it's very clear that the greatest leaders that emerged began not as people devoted to a principle, but people who were devoted to some kind of obligation they had to their tribe and to their family and to something concrete.

And that could eventually become something much more, but that's always an accidental confluence of circumstance.

That's why Hegel was really obsessed with getting Napoleon's recognition.

Hegel understood that Napoleon was a creature of his time.

Napoleon was not an actor motivated purely by devotion to some universal principle.

Napoleon was someone who was very much embedded in the world of politics and statecraft and military dynamics and so on.

And he ended up embodying, because of the cunning of history, what Hegel would call the world spirit.

So he's the world spirit on horseback.

And Kojev and Hegel, they kind of talk about the importance of the mutual recognition between.

These historic, these great men of history, or whatever, right?

Whatever, what else can you call them, who accidentally become the embodiment of the world spirit and the kind of philosopher that can recognize the universal principle in them, right?

The Safavids were before they were a family, they were an order, they were a Sufi order.
